We use a patterned based spelling program. Each week all of the words follow a word pattern. In addition there are 5 high frequency words that should be studied. On Mondays students take a pretest to determine their ability with the pattern on the week. Students who score a 90% or more will study List A. Students who score less than a 90% will study list B. List B is on grade level words and List A is a challenge. Your child will sometimes be on list A or B. Everyone should study the high frequency words.
Students are tested on Fridays on their list. A Spelling Fun grid is sent home with suggestions for studying spelling during the week. Spelling words are glued into their planner for the week.
Students need to bring their binder and planner to school daily.
Math Parent Tip Sheets
On the math page of my website I have uploaded and linked all of the Parent tip sheets for the module we are working on. Please view or print for advice on helping with homework.
30 Book Challenge:
Each grade level 1st - 4th has a yearly book challenge. Our goal is for students to read 30 books this school year. Students should be reading at home and in class and taking AR tests weekly. We will be focusing on reading a variety of genres. Each month we will focus on a different genre and students will be expected to read book(s) from that genre. These books can be read as homework and classwork. The challenge is to help motivate students to read a variety of literature.
